In my Veterinary Surgery we have a picture wall full my patients (should I now call them "Customers"?). The pictures go back a few years and I have put a few of the pictures up on the web for you to see. Some of these "rascals" are mentioned in my books, many are simply part of my day-to-day work as a vet ... and some I am especially fond of, please don't tell anyone that I have favourites! |

Operations are routine for most country vets looking after pets.
Teeth are sometimes a problem with older dogs, the problem operating on a dog to remove a tooth is that they have to be given an anaesthetic and with all animals there is a small risk with this. There is no other way as dogs wont sit still while you correct teeth. Dogs often get broken teeth by playing or catching stones that someone has thrown from them - so if you want to keep your dog's teeth in good condition don't play use stones or any other hard object to play with them.
Regular cleaning using doggy toothpaste is also required and most dogs with patience will learn to love getting their teeth cleaned especially when you use "Chicken" flavoured toothpaste - just don't use it on the kids!
All vets have a wide range of veterinary equipment and this along with the cost of veterinary assistants ("nurses") along with my own living costs means that even a simple visit to the vet can be expensive. For more expensive treatments and long term health care for certain illnesses or conditions can mean that you are faced with a bill costing thousands of pounds. I always encourage people to take out pet insurance for most pets and especially dogs, cats and rabbits. My personal choice for this is Pet Plan. |
